Upholstery Cleaning Instructions

STANDARD SDS VINYL CLEANING & DISINFECTING

Barrier Technique

The first choice in the protection of dental equipment should be the use of disposable barrier products. The repeat use of disinfectants on upholstery surfaces without the constant removal of the solution residue will eventually cause damage to upholstery surfaces.

Chemical Disinfecting

Because there are various cleaners, conditioners and disinfectants available, it is impossible for manufacturers to test them all. The manufacturer of the cleaner or disinfectant to be used should be contacted for information on whether or not the disinfectant will damage upholstery surfaces.

A solution of mild non-ionic detergent and water is recommended for routine upholstery cleaning. Never use abrasives.

Unacceptable Disinfectants

The following chemicals may cause damage to upholstery:

  • Alcohol based solutions
  • Acetone
  • Bleach
  • Phenol
  • Foam spray products

Day-to-day soil:
Remove ordinary dirt and smudges with a mild soap and water solution and a clean, soft cloth or towel; dry with a soft, lint-free cloth or towel. For more difficult stains, continue to Special cleaning problems. The use of vinyl “conditioners” or “protectants” is not recommended and should be avoided on all Boltaflex contract upholstery.

Special cleaning problems:
To minimize any problems from stains, all stains should be cleaned as soon as they are noticed, making sure the recommended cleaning agents are used in the following order:

  • Non-abrasive cleaners.
  • Use one of the following recommended cleaners with a soft cloth or damp sponge: Formula 409® All-Purpose Spray Cleaner or Fantastik® Spray Cleaner.
  • Rinse cleaned area with fresh water then dry with a clean, lint-free cloth.

Naugahyde Care and Cleaning

For Light soiling:
1. A solution of 10% household liquid dish soap with warm water applied with a soft damp cloth will remove most soiling.
2. If necessary, a solution of liquid cleanser and water applied with a soft bristle brush. Wipe away the residue with a waterdampened cloth.

For Heavier soiling not solved by above method:
Dampen a soft white cloth with lighter fluid (naphtha) and rub gently. Rinse with a water-dampened cloth.

NOTE: Use extreme caution with this method. Complete only in a well-ventilated area and away from any open flame.
NOTE: You should try this method on an inconspicuous spot before using it on the original stain/soiling.

For the most difficult stains not removed by the above methods:
1. Dampen a soft white cloth with a solution of household bleach (sodium hypochlorite); 10% bleach, 90% water.
2. Rub gently.
3. Rinse with a water-dampened cloth to remove bleach concentration.
4. If necessary, allow a 1:10 diluted bleach solution to puddle on the affected area or apply with a soaked cloth for approximately 30 minutes. Rinse with a water-dampened cloth to remove any remaining bleach concentration.

NOTE: You should try this method on an inconspicuous spot before using it on the original stain/soiling.

Morbern Care and Cleaning

It is recommended that each stain is cleaned in a stepwise manner using the sequence below:

Step 1: Regular cleaning (dirt and grime): Use mild soap and water, then fresh water rinse. Cleaning frequency depends on use. As a minimum, please clean weekly.
Step 2: Stubborn stains (crayon, eye shadow, chocolate, blood): Wipe using a soft cloth or soft brush. Use detergent cleaners such as Formula 409 or Fantastik. Rinse with dean water and wipe dry.
Step 3:** More difficult stains (ballpoint pen, lipstick, mustard, tar or asphalt): Carefully clean the stained area with lighter fluid or rubbing alcohol. Carefully rinse with clean water and dry.

Note: For best results, immediate attention is required for severe stains.

**Caution: Exercise care as these solvents are flammable. Use only small quantities of solvents and keep clear of any sources of ignition. Wear protective gloves and ensure cleaning takes place, in a well ventilated area.
